The Team Van Oord partnership between Van Oord, May Gurney and Mackley has been selected by the Environment Agency (EA) as one of seven contractors for a second-generation flood defence, waterways and water resources capital works programme.
The second term of the National Contractors Framework (NCF2) has overall value of £500 million, and works will be split into the following two categories:
Core Works: including construction of fluvial and tidal flood defences and impounding structures; land remediation works; works associated with water resources, fisheries, recreation, navigation; and landscape/environmental enhancement works.
Coastal works: comprising coastal structures and other associated work such as landscape works and environmental enhancement works, and beach nourishment.
The framework will come into force in April 2007 and will initially run for four years. However, there will be the option of extending this agreement by a further four years at the end of the initial contract period.
Nikki Brown, NCF2 Project Manager, said: "The final seven contractors have been selected based on their ability to meet our requirements on quality and price. This will ensure that they are best placed to succeed in the challenge of delivering a diverse programme of work.
"This second generation contract will support the delivery of the Environment Agency's Engineering Procurement Strategy. The emphasis remains on value for money, programme management, health and safety and sustainable construction within a competitive environment."
Team Van Oord was created to meet the EA's aims in the delivery of best value; offering best practice project delivery solutions; and providing exemplar performance in health, safety and environmental management, while championing sustainable construction.
The partnership's Board of Directors is made up of senior managers from Van Oord UK, Mackley Construction and May Gurney. Involvement in NCF1 has allowed Team Van Oord to establish and develop experienced teams, including supply chain partners, to assist both in appraisal and project delivery.
