At the 2010 ICE South East England Engineering Excellence Awards, Lewes Cliffe Flood Defence Scheme won the Small Project Award. The project was constructed by Team Van Oord . Mackley staff supported the Environment Agency and designers, Jacobs through the early stages of development, influencing design, reducing risks and developing budget costs. Mackley undertook  the construction works.

Team Van Oord is a joint venture between Van Oord UK Ltd, May Gurney and J T Mackley & Co Ltd serving the Environment Agency through their National Contractor Framework.

Lewes Cliffe Flood Defence Scheme

On Sunday 25th July Mackley Construction employee Tom White will be taking part in the International Triathlon World Championships. This is a huge event held in Hyde Park, London; where athletes from around the world will battle it out to be crowned world champion.

Mackley Construction recently installed a Bailey Bridge to provide heavy plant access to Chertsey Water Treatment Works. The Bailey Bridge is capable of carrying the piling rig, cranes and excavators which are needed for the £3m scheme. Mackley were given possession of the access road and existing access bridge at 1800hrs and the temporary bridge was operational by 0300hrs that same night with the first item of plant arriving on site at 0700hrs the following morning.

A NEW £40,000 skate park in Small Dole was officially opened on Saturday 12 September 2009.

The skate park is the result of three years planning and consultation in response to requests from young people in the area for a local facility.

Early in 2008 Mackley Construction gained its certification for the use of sustainable timber through its construction activities – we are one of only a few contractors to ensure that timber is procured from sustainable, managed forests. We were awarded Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC).

Mackley Construction had to call in the bomb disposal squad when an unexploded anti tank mine was found during excavation of the beach at Cart Gap, Happisburgh. Mackley are building a new ramp for the RNLI. The mine was found at 8.00am and blown up by the Bomb disposal team later the same day. Had this happened in the summer and the mine dried out, it could have become unstable.

Work on restoring the Grade II listed structure was completed and opened ahead of schedule at the end of August 2008.  The project followed a successful bid for Lottery Funding.

The toll bridge links Shoreham with Lancing and was built across the River Adur tidal estuary in 1781.  Prior to 1968 when it became a public bridleway, it was the A27!
