

The rebuilding of the coastal defences at Southwold on the Suffolk coast took place between November 2005 and June 2006. They extended from Gunhill in the south, to the southern extent of the Easton Bavents cliffs in the north, together with the flood defence embankment works located at Botany Marsh, Southwold.
The combined resources of Team Van Oord and Mackley Construction included:
- the provision and placement of 17,000 tonnes of rock to form eight rock groynes
- provision and erection of eight timber groynes (constructed with hardwood timber obtained from sustainable resources)
- construction of access steps
- dredging and beach nourishment (approx. 75,000m³ supplied from licensed, offshore dredging areas)
- re-use of buried rock
- removal of existing groynes
- concrete repair works to the promenade
- provision and erection of five navigation markers
- provision and erection of safety signs
- construction of a 200m long flood embankment to protect the town from encirclement
